"Welcome. This is Stan Lee of Marvel Comics, ordering you to look around you. Your classmates, your friends, you never know which one of them may be a mutant, a person born with strange and wondrous powers. Now some mutants, like the X-Men, try to use their powers for good, but then there are the terrorist mutants, who plan to destroy the human race!" Pryde of the X-Men was a short-lived series about the X-Men, with the main character being Kitty Pryde (whose alias is Shadow Cat, though she never becomes Shadow Cat in the series), which is why the series is titled Pryde of the X-Men. The show was produced by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions, who made a pilot for NBC. The pilot aired, but for unknown reasons, it was never turned into a full-blown series. Despite it not becoming a full series, the pilot has aired in syndication, and was later released on video. In this series, the X-Men featured are • Professor X • Kitty Pryde • Wolverine • Storm • Dazzler • Nightcrawler • Colossus While it is unknown why the series was cancelled so soon, there have been some rumors as to why: • Wolverine was portrayed with an Australian accent, even though his comic background was Canadian. • Kitty Pryde was depicted as a fearful kid in this series, however, in the X-Men comics, she was far from childish and scared. • Stan Lee’s opening and closing narration for the show sounded rather “campy” which was found annoying by many viewers. • The theme song was rather childish compared to the dark, grim theme of X-Men: The Animated Series. Kitty Pryde meets Professor Charles Xavier, who informs her that she is a mutant, someone with extraordinary powers. While Wolverine objects to her joining the X-Men, everyone else welcomes her with open arms. They’re warm welcome is quickly overshadowed by a mutant terrorist alert, which causes the X-Men to leave the mansion. It turns out to be a ruse, created by Pyro and the Blob, to lure the X-Men away from the mansion so Magneto and Juggernaut could steal Cerebro’s power circuit. He is successful in doing so. He plans to use this technology to direct the comet Scorpio at the Planet Earth, to destroy the majority of the human population, which will make the human race a minority.
